Seafarer abandonment remains a growing issue across the industry. In 2023, over 130 cases of abandonment were recorded, affecting approximately 1,676 seafarers, with unpaid wages exceeding USD 12 million.
In 2024, the situation deteriorated further, with more than 160 reported cases and over 2,000 seafarers impacted, marking the highest levels recorded in recent years.
Early indications for 2025 suggest that abandonment cases have remained at similarly elevated levels, with over 150 reported incidents and more than 2,000 seafarers affected, confirming that the issue is persistent rather than declining.
These cases often leave crews without pay, provisions, or repatriation—while ownership structures and commercial pressures delay accountability.
This is not an isolated issue. It reflects a systemic gap between regulatory compliance and operational responsibility.
Aaron Right Pte. Ltd. supports initiatives addressing seafarer abandonment and will match contributions made through this platform.
Funds will be directed to recognised organisations assisting affected crews, with transparency maintained throughout.
